About my paintings

I then need to pull
back just to get back to my day-to-day perspective.
This process can be so intimate - so close - that the rose form
becomes an abstraction.
I paint red roses differently. A red rose can represent love or it can simply be one of the most beautiful forms nature has to offer
In general my roses and irises are portraits. I am a serious student of
Rembrandt,
Renoir, and John Singer Sargent. The colored area and shadows of the
white rose painting comes directly from studies of Renoir's woman's
faces in many of his paintings. What cannot be seen in photos are the
micro paint applications of reds, violets, oranges and yellows and
blues in the rose image shown above..
I like to show the intimacy of the rose. I like to show a bee's
eye view. I like to imagine walking on the petals and knowing
this is my whole world. Hold a rose sometime, study it, put it
so close to you that all there is in your vision is the rose
and the scent of the rose - now you are in a new world.

What you will find in this gallery

As you might see, the yellow rose on the left is very similar to
the red rose above. I found this particular view of this rose to be so
intimate - so amazing for me to paint that I painted two versions of
the same rose.
I do not limit my paintings to roses. As you can see other, flowers
like the graceful Calla Lilly (above) are also subjects I have enjoyed
exploring.
I offer my paintings in two ways. The first and most common is through
commissions. To see more information on commissions please see my page
on commissions. Thee second way to find some of my paintings is through selected galleries. Please contact me using my Contact page for a gallery that might work for you. second way to find some of my paintings is through selected galleries.
